Apple’s latest case study profiles a US law firm’s attempts to go paperless using iPads. Here’s how you can dictate on them too.

The benefits of being able to dictate case notes on your iPhone or iPad are obvious. Imagine the freedom of dictating case notes wherever you like, whenever you like. Picture yourself putting away the out of date dictation machine, reveling in the convenience of dictating on the same machine that lets you take calls and store your calendar appointments or shopping lists. Bask in the beauty of clear, audible sounds, and ditch the fragile, distorted tape recordings. Not just free, but mp3.

If you are still stuck in the dark ages and want to know how to dictate case notes from your iPhone or iPad, here are some quick steps to get you started:

1. Go to the Apple App Store and download ‘Dictamus’. You can use the free version, to begin with.

2. Open the app and select ‘Record’.

3. Dictate case notes and when you are finished, press ‘Stop’.

4. Save the recording with an appropriate name.

5. Select ‘Dictation List’ and pick the dictation you wish to send.

6. Finally, choose either ‘Send dictation as email’ or ‘Send dictation to Transcription Global’s FTP’.

Once we receive the dictation, we’ll confirm receipt and have the case notes transcribed by the next working day! It really is that easy.
